Hiking and Mountaineering

Together with the "nationalpark-team" we give every guest a voucher for a guided tour in the nationalpark-region. It's for free. You can find the tours here:

Austria's highest peaks right outside your front door. Grossglockner (3,798 m) and Grossvenediger (3,662 m). Blooming meadows, majestic mountains, roaring waterfalls, streams with drinking water, pastures with animals that all have names, honest and warm people.

The National Park lives through this close connection between nature and man which has existed here for many hundreds of years. The Hohe Tauern National Park with its 1,800 square kilometers is by far the largest nature reserve in the entire Alpine region. The variety of different habitats makes it an exceptional feature worldwide.

Mountain Biking

Lots of mountains and valleys for mountain bikers in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Majestic mountains, stunning panoramas, a vast network of trails for all skill levels, pastures, huts ... criss-cross, up and downhill. It makes for sturdy calves. East Tyrol is a top mountain biking area. If there is time, the boss himself will lead the most beautiful tours.

Motorbike

Born to be seductive! There is much for bikers to discover in the Alps. A hidden queen of all roads runs between the Grossglockner and the Dolomites. The most southwesterly corner of Austria has plenty to offer. Lovely panoramic roads and fast connections to the hotspots of the biker scene from the Hohe Tauern National Park to the wild passes of the Dolomites.

Rafting

Adrenaline outdoor sport in the Hohe Tauern National Park. In the beautiful world of mountain and water of East Tyrol, there is much to see, but above all plenty to do. Be it a breath-taking canyoning tour or an adventurous rafting tour on the Isel. We have the right program and the best equipment to experience the impressive sports world of East Tyrol first hand. Our Outdoor Camp is located in the small village of Unterpeischlach.

Golfing

At the foot of the breathtaking scenery of the Lienz Dolomites, near the sunny town of Lienz in Lavant (about 30 km from Matrei in East Tyrol), the Golfclub Dolomitengolf East Tyrol welcomes you with one of the finest 27-hole championship courses in Austria.

Tennis

In Matrei the tennis outfit is glacier white. The very first tennis court in Matrei in East Tyrol - in the park of the castle Weissenstein - was only available to the illustrious castle society. At this time it was a sport of the nobility. Those days are long gone. Today the Tauern tennis hall and the associated outdoor courts are open to all tennis enthusiasts. The complex is not far from our hotel.

Bike rental

If you don't bring a bike on your holiday but still want to explore the area around Matrei in Osttirol and the Hohe Tauern National Park on two wheels, you can rent a bicycle at the local sports shop SPORT 2000 Wibmer.
